Solitary Bride Session

The changing times when the air is transforming from humid-nasty-hot New York City weather, to a fresh-lysol-just-mopped-wooden floor feel—If you know what I mean. I have a fascination with fall, specially when leaves are brown and dry. That always makes me say that this is the best season for Solitary Bride sessions. Usually these kind of sessions are reserved exclusively for the bride that takes no "NO" for an answer and the ones that want to remember how her life was before the big YES. Which one are you? Enjoy. Hair/Make-up: YBC Beautifier Please Play the audio for better viewing...

Starry Night

—pretty common word to hear all the time and now even more with the commoditization of friendship by social media. There's not a certain thing that would show your friendship more than time. Time has passed and it seems that we met yesterday... Good day, beautiful place, lovely people and the most beautiful starry night I've seen in ages. Verenisse + Manuel + Nicholas to come

Making my clients comfortable with the idea of being in front of the camera is a bit hard. But from time to time, I find a very "rare" specie that just can't stop smiling and showing how happy they are. That very same episode happened with Verenisse & Manuel (or what I ended up calling him during the shoot, Manuelito). They literally cracked-up at every word that came out of my mouth LOL. Love them! They are happily awaiting for the arrival of little Nicholas (BTW pretty awesome name). Enjoy seeing a very happy couple or just be consumed by good envy :) http://www.gustavourena.com/musica/_Let%20Them%20Knock.mp3

A month of parties

October is the month of horror movies, monster costumes, pumpkin carving and Octoberfest for those beer lovers like me— It's Halloween time if you will. But it is also a very special month in my family, a Party-all-month time. So the party starts with our wedding anniversary follow by our engagement anniversary. Then we have the birthdays—Alejandro's on Octuber 19th, me on the 26th, my  mom on the 29th... I mean is a Paella-Party-Month. Looking back it is so hard to imagene that eleven moths ago Luz had a belly the size of two extra size watermelons put together and a walk of a pretentious...

La Española. Zona Colonial, Santo Domingo, Dom. Rep.

Albums

My father in law has one of those old DVD-R recorders. He saves all the family videos directly from a video camera to that thing... He has more than 500 hours of unrecoverable memories saved there. Or maybe not so saved. One day that thing will fail and hell will break lose. There’s no better place to save your memories than having a physical book. I have pictures posted in all the social media platforms, and yet nothing compares to the feeling of getting onto the top shelf of my closet and reaching for that box full of old pictures. The smell of old photography paper gets me ready for what I'm about...

The 70th Summer—Surprise Grandma!

I have memories of her...but very faint. It has been almost 30 years since I ate her food and felt her soft hands caressing my hair. Grand moms are magical beings that makes the life of those near her special. Thanks so much Charlin for letting me record these bits of time.

Making-of: Pamela & Johan

There is more to a finished image than what we often see. It takes planning, a great location, a fantastic team and a big deal of passion to do great work. May & Johan's session just had a great amount of all this elements. Here are some behind-the-camera stills of the shoot.  Enjoy  :)

Pamela + Johan. Coney Island, New York.

This is one of my favorite couples to photograph. Not because the are my beloved friends but because of the energy that this two have when together. They are more like day and night and everything in between—if you know what I mean. That day was a sunny, very breezy spring afternoon. We waited a long time to get the perfect sunset at the boardwalk of the legendary Coney Island Theme Park. Out of this world couple... magical place. I really love what I do. P.S. The last image at the bottom is a composed image. It was absolutely a very fun shoot. clairy browne,Love Letter song: Love...

Can you feel the time?

Sitting in my home studio, hearing the AC fan blasting air over my rigth side. We await a very hot day today. This summer has been brutal here in NYC. Is one of those days that my son woke up too early,  just to play. I guess I used to do the same when I was his age. But besides the heat, today is a great day to look back and give thanks. It has been a little more than 6 months that I made the radical switch from design to domestic photography and I'm feeling pretty good about it. I'm seeing my photography work improving or at least going to where I want it to be. Many of you had giving me the oportunity...

Happy Times (family Portrait)

This is the true, "A man without a family, is a man without dreams." At least is what I feel every time I talk to my compi (my son's godfather), Francisco AKA Chiqui. "There's no real love than the one you feel for your kids" he used to say to me, until Alejandro was born... I must admit that he was right all along.

Corina & Jose. Van cortland Park, New York

Whenever you feel the presence of true love and understanding, you will also feel an overwhelming amount of peace that takes over your voluntary movements. This makes your face smile for apparently no reason, you can't help it. You are trapped... and happy. Carla Morrison, Eres Tu

Baby Chloe —Family Portrait

I don't know but ever since Alejandro (my son) was born my paternal feelings are flowing. It is something crazy. Before when I got close to a baby, I will feel itchy and very uncomfortable. The Making Of—Red Witch Morning & Bambi’s Death

For a long time I have been thinking about classic fairly tales for a photoshoot (like Red Riding Hood, Bambi, Snow White...) And it gets me sick-off-my-mind to think about the beauty, the happy endings and how unworldly  the whole thing is to me... I mean, 7 midgets, a witch, and a prince in the middle of no-where? Come on. So, since I do what I want :)—and I have great people to help me,  I had a little fun adding a small twist to illustrated the story my way. I created two stories: 1- Red Witch Morning (Red Riding Hood) On this version,  the little Red Hood is a witch that got her powers...
